2018 Abedian School of Architecture Lecture Series, Bond University

The Abedian School of Architecture Lecture Series 2015 at Bond University brings together a range of high-profile national and international speakers offering their insights and approaches to the practice of architecture and urbanism in the 21st century. The series offers a forum for speculation, exploration, and discussion of both the cutting edge of the discipline and its seminal foundations, presented through lectures, panel discussion, and film. The 2015 series features Richard Leplastrier (Australia), Thomas Bailey/Room11 (Australia), Drawing on Life (Ireland/film), Takeshi Katagiri (Japan), Juhani Pallasmaa (Finland), Neil Durbach (Australia), Adrian Carter (Australia), David Erdman (Hong Kong), Rachel Neeson (Australia), Kerstin Thompson (Australia), and Li Hu (China).

'Conversations with Students’ at the Abedian School of Architecture features lectures and seminar presentations between leading practitioners and academics, set in a dialogue around issues faced by designers, educators, and architectural thinkers as they carry out their work. These conversations highlight the level of robust exchange and meaningful exploration of themes relevant to the discipline internationally.

Activity in 2014 at the Abedian School of Architecture is framed by the phrase: “Design Is Research” with the aim to yield productive results at the intersection of practical and scholarly investigation. Through the work of the School, a body of research output will be developed through creative and rigorous study of focused questions that are formal, technical, and cultural. The 2014 Lecture Series presents academics and practitioners working on substantive questions and issues through their own form of research methodology.

The 2013 Architecture Lecture Series at Bond University is based on multiple notions of the word “Discipline” – which provides a framework each of our speakers will address through their particular form of practice. The “Discipline” Series offers a stream of lectures by practitioners and academics who are helping to expand and explore the definition and edge condition of architecture through a range of new, reconsidered, and exemplary disciplinary tools, techniques, theories, territories, or works. While it is our role as a school of architecture to reinforce the centre and conventions of disciplinary activity, it is also our aim to forge a line of inquiry to expand what architectural practice means and how it is understood.
