Printing, copying, downloading

Vendors, authors and publishers determine the amount you can copy and print from eBooks protected by Adobe Digital Rights Management.

Printing other eBooks

Print eBooks hosted on databases such as EBSCO using the print options within the database. 

eBooks free of DRM will generally be in PDF format, and you can print from Adobe Reader. 

Downloading

eBooks Protected by Adobe Digital Rights Management

  1. Download Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) and follow the installation instructions and create your Adobe ID. ADE is the free software used to read eBooks from ProQuest Ebook Central.
  2. Find the Download option in your eBook platform and download the file.
  3. Click on the downloaded file, and it will open automatically. 
The book will disappear from your computer or device when the loan length expires. To access it after your loan period has expired, go back to Ebook Central and download the book again.

Other eBooks

  • eBooks hosted on platforms such as MDConsult or PsycBooks are generally available as DRM-free chapter PDFs.
  • You can download and read them immediately on your computer using Adobe Reader.
  • You may also copy and transfer DRM-free PDFs to an unlimited number of other devices.

eBook readers

eBooks protected by Adobe DRM

  1. On your computer, Download Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) and follow the instructions for installation and creating your Adobe ID. ADE is the free software used to read eBooks from Proquest Ebook Central.

  2. Download the book you wish to read to your computer. 
  3. Connect the device to the computer. Adobe Digital Editions will prompt you to authorise the device. Once authorised, the device will appear within the Bookshelves area of the Adobe Digital Editions window.
  4. Copy the eBook/s onto the device by dragging and dropping the title/s onto the device icon. When the e-reader is disconnected, the ebook/s will appear on the device. You can transfer the same ebook to up to 6 computers or devices, in accordance with the Adobe Digital Editions terms and conditions.
When the loan length expires, the book will show as 'Expired' or disappear from your computer or device. To access it after your loan period has expired, go back to Proquest Ebook Central and download it again.

Other ebooks

eBooks hosted on platforms such as MDConsult or PsycBooks are generally available as DRM-free chapter PDFs. Add these to your e-reader as you would other PDF files.

  • You can download and read them immediately on your computer using Adobe Reader.

  • You may also copy and transfer DRM-free PDFs to an unlimited number of other devices.

Kindle

Reading Adobe Digital Rights Management (DRM) protected ebooks on the Kindle is impossible. Adobe DRM protects the majority of eBooks available from the library.

Kindles can only access DRM-protected ebooks with their proprietary DRM (Kindle DRM). Therefore you cannot transfer ebooks from Adobe Digital Editions to standard Kindles.

The Kindle Fire supports the Bluefire Reader app.

Install Bluefire

The Kindle does support DRM-free PDFs. Connect the Kindle to your computer through a USB cable and drag and drop the PDFs to the Kindle.
