Adobe Acrobat Read Aloud tool for desktop

 

 

 

  • Set Adobe Acrobat as your default app to open all PDFs.
  • To enable Read Out Loud, navigate to View in Adobe Reader>Reader Out Loud>Activate Read Out Loud.
  • Once it's activated, you can choose to read the current page or read to the end of the Document.

Microsoft Edge - Read Aloud Add-ons

  • Read aloud the current web-page article
  • Supports 40+ languages.
  • Read Aloud uses text-to-speech (TTS) technology to convert webpage text to audio.  It works on a variety of websites, including news sites, blogs, fan fiction, publications, textbooks, school and class websites, and online university course materials.
  • To use Read Aloud, navigate to the web page you want to read and click the Read Aloud icon on the browser menu.  The shortcut keys ALT-P, ALT-O, ALT-Comma, and ALT-Period can be used to Play/Pause, Stop, Rewind, and Forward, respectively.  You may select the text you want to read before activating the extension.  Right clicking on the selected text will provide you with a Read Aloud menu option.
  • Ctrl + Shift + U  Or 'Right-click' starts or stops read aloud
  • To change the voice, reading speed, pitch, or enable text highlighting, go to the Options page either by right-clicking on the Read Aloud icon or by clicking the Gear button on the extension popup (you'll need to stop playback to see the Gear button).

Listening to ebooks on Proquest Ebook Central

Before using a Read Aloud extension in Ebook Central – the accessibility settings will require changing:

  1. Open the Profile tab.
  2. Check the “Enable Text Only Mode”
  3. This is designed to work with screen readers.
  4. It can also be used by Enabling the OpenDyslexic typeface

Microsoft Immersive Reader in Edge

  • Simplifies web page layouts, removes clutter, and helps you customize your reading experience.
  • Immersive Reader was initially designed to meet the needs of readers with dyslexia and dysgraphia.
  • To enter Reader Mode, use Microsoft Edge to visit a website you want to read.  Select Enter Immersive Reader in the url bar or use the keyboard shortcut F9.
  • Tip: If you don't see the Immersive Reader icon in the address bar, select the text you want to read, right-click and select Open in Immersive Reader from the menu.
