Evaluating web resources

There is no shortage of information on the web, but being able to determine the usefulness and quality of information is critical. There are criteria you can use to analyse and evaluate the quality, usefulness, and validity of the resources you find. These guidelines for evaluating information will help you with the evaluation process.

    ACTA is the national coordinating body for Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages.
  • Center for Applied Linguistics
    Provides a comprehensive range of research-based information, tools, and resources related to language and culture. The Center is based in Washington D.C.
  • About.com: English as 2nd Language
    Contains many useful resources for students of varying levels of competence from beginners to advanced; includes grammar, writing, listening skills.
  • ELTnews.com
    Website for English teachers in Japan. Offers teaching ideas, teacher resources, book reviews, job opportunities, etc.
  • Open Archives Language Community
    An international partnership of institutions and individuals who are creating a worldwide virtual library of language resources by: (i) developing consensus on best current practice for the digital archiving of language resources, and (ii) developing a network of inter-operating repositories and services for housing and accessing such resources.
